What do you like best?

BimlFlex’s relatively simple process to enter and record metadata which then directly drives the creation of SSIS projects.
The tool is extremely flexible and has the capability of supporting systems not initially inside the scope of the software (for example legacy Oracle Databases). Additionally, I enjoy the ability to set up and maintain a Persistent Staging Area with the flip of a switch and the ability to use it to reload the Data Vault from scratch should (when) model changes are desired later on in the project.
Although not technically part of the tool, the support is phenomenal.
The entire Varigence team has been EXTREMELY helpful and supportive with and questions and/or request and I feel that deserves mention.

What do you dislike?

Hard to come up with anything substantial as any flaws or problems I currently have are minor or can be easily worked around.
At the time of writing this there are currently no ‘out of the box’ reports for SSIS performance and will need to be configured/created on a as needed process. There is a series of views and tables that hold this information so all data is exposed. However, I’m to understand that this is a feature that is planned to be later incorporated into the product.

Recommendations to others considering the product.

BimlFlex is highly versatile and a complete package.
Simple enough to onboard and use it with minimal training during the beginning phases of your project yet it has versatility and flexibility to handle increasing more complex projects as your skill with it increases.
You’re not just buying a DW/DV tool, you are buying an entire engine/language (Biml / BimlScript) that is capable so much more. Furthermore, BimlFlex is backed by a highly talented, helpful and quick to respond team.
If you have questions or issues around how to use the product with your project, you can rest assured that they will be answered quickly and completely.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been using BimlFlex to streamline and build a Data Vault solution.
Through use of the tool we have saved an large amount of time and allowed our small team to support and deploy increasingly larger projects.
Additionally, being a metadata driven product, we now have a version of documentation that is consistently in sync with what is currently deployed.

In which period or periods have you used the product and are you still using it?

February 2016 until now (and still using)
